It seems that Phil Gordon of the White House press is making a lot of noise with this tweet.
“Bilat” is an informal shorthand for “Bilateral,” and this is what Gordon used to refer to the meeting between VP Harris and President Bongbong Marcos.
We Filipinos love finding naughty meanings in everything 😂 The American meant to say the bilateral meeting, not the sexual organ!
“Bilát” refers to the female genitalia. It is used in Hilgaynon, Cebuano and Waray, but of course, it is recognized and adopted throughout the Philippines.
Perhaps western media people should refrain from starting sentences with “In her bilat.”
Filipinos no longer use the phrase “ay! bilat mo!”
The first time I heard it, I asked my mother (who speaks visaya, hilgaynon, and kiniray-a) what it meant. It’s a bad word, I remember being told LOL
